Últimas horas en Bogotá.
Nueve días de nuevo conocimiento, nuevas amistades y nuevo amor hacia el pueblo Colombiano. Comencé este viaje intentando darle sentido a un concepto sensorial de paz y justicia. He aquí lo que encontré:
Tacto: La paz y la justicia se sienten ásperas, no son suaves. Ahora entiendo esa frase en español que dice “limar asperezas.” Paz y Justicia son el camino para unificar opiniones diferentes y vencer dificultades, que en otras palabras es “limar asperezas.”
Vista: En este caso la vista no se basa en percibir colores (la paz es siempre vista como algo blanco). La paz y la justicia la percibo por la distancia que tiene ante mi mirada. En el caso de Colombia la distancia es media. No están lejos debido a que FARC y el gobierno lograron negociar. Pero tampoco están cerca. Aún existen discursos políticos capaces de dañar los esfuerzos alcanzados hasta el momento.
Oído: Suena a sonrisas y a niños jugando en la calle. Si bien es cierto que los colombianos han seguido sonriendo y los niños jugando a pesar del conflicto, esta sonrisa y el sonido del juego es diferente. Es sincero.
Gusto: Mencioné antes que el gusto quizá era amargo. Sin embargo, lo que es amargo es el proceso no la justicia y la paz en sí. La paz y justicia pueden saber dulce o saladas, depende de la percepción. Hay personas que prefieren lo dulce, hay otros que prefieren lo salado. La paz y la justicia no es algo impuesto, es algo que se debe de adaptar de persona a persona, de victima a victima. Para aquellos que quieren a sus victimarios en la cárcel, llamémosle “salados,” deberían tener la oportunidad de tener justicia salada. Aquellos que prefieren reconciliación, llamémosle "dulces", deberían tener la oportunidad de obtener el más dulce de los helados.
Olfato: No pude descifrar a que huele, pero si descifré a lo que NO huele. Paz y justicia no huelen a la pólvora de una bala o a la sangre de alguien que perdió la vida a causa de la guerra. La violencia y la “mano dura” que los gobiernos colombianos pasados usaron para lograr paz y justicia no serán jamás el método idóneo para lograr una sociedad justa y pacífica al largo plazo.
En conclusión, si como constructores de la paz queremos de verdad saber qué es lo que paz y justicia significan en un determinado país, conflicto o contexto, la respuesta es esta: VIAJA.

Last hours in Bogota.
Nine days of knowledge, new friends, and love for the Colombian population. I started this class trying to make sense of my sensory concept of peace and justice. This is what I found:
Touch: Peace and justice feel rough, not soft. Now I understand the phrase that in Spanish says “smooth the rough things.” Peace and Justice are the way to unify different opinions and overcome difficulties, which in other words is “smooth the rough things.”
Sight: In this case, the sight is not used to perceive colors (peace is always perceived as something “white”). I perceived peace and justice in regards to the distance they have from my sight. In the case of Colombia, the distance is “average”. It is not that far because FARC and the Colombian government negotiated. But it is not that close either. There are still political movements that have the ability to stop the agreement.
Hearing: It sounds like laugh and children playing in the street. Yes, people also laugh and children also played in the conflict, however; this laugh and children playing are different… they are genuine.
Taste: I mentioned before that the taste was probably bitter. However, what is bitter is the process that requires achieving peace and justice, but not peace and justice per se. There are some that prefer the sweet taste and others that prefer salty. Peace and justice shouldn’t be imposed, it should be something that adapt to people’s preferences, that adapt from victim to victim. For those that prefer prosecuting perpetrators, let’s call them “salty,” they should receive salty peace and justice. Those who prefer reconciliation, let’s call them “sweet,” should receive the sweetest taste available in the world.
Smell: I was not able to find out how peace and justice smell, however; I was able to find out how they DO NOT smell. Peace and Justice do not smell like the gunpowder of a bullet or the blood of someone who lost his life because of the war. Violence and “though hand”, the mechanism that former president Uribe used, are not the way to achieve a long lasting peace or a fair society.
In conclusion, if you are a peacebuilder and you really want to know what peace and justice mean for a specific country and population, the answer is simple: TRAVEL.
